The lago di Braies is a touristic hotspot. We drove there along the Furcia pass, which was a bit challenging for us Dutchies not used to driving in the mountains. On the way back, we chose to avoid this pass and drive on the main road (SS49).
The lake was VERY busy and this was during the low season. If you’re there in July or August, be sure to arrive really early in the morning. It is a stunning lake and not to be missed.
You can walk all around the lake and this is definitely worth it. It’s not far: just a few kilometres. Because we wanted to walk a bit further, we decided to follow route number 20 for a while, to see some of the surroundings:
